The reason why information from these sources vary so much is that the nutrition information they receive is not reliable and often anecdotal rather than scientifically founded.

As a personal trainer is not a standardized qualification the courses vary and different institutes that run them vary in the information they give.

Personal trainers are not qualified to give nutrition advice. The best people for advice on food are Dietitians. They are recognized by government and work in hospitals and private practice settings. Dietitians spend 4 years at university and are the experts on food and food behaviors. Dietitians only deal in scientifically founded advice that is proven to work, and they wont try to sell you a bunch of powders and potions.

I live in Australia and so I cant be sure what books are available for you. Any book by a dietitian is best for nutrition advice and diets. Surprisingly doctors often give bad diet advice too. Their training in food and nutrition is almost as poor as personal trainers. Dr Atkins is an example of this bad advice. I’m not saying all doctors do this, but I have heard some pretty strange diet myths coming from doctors.

I know, but I’m a dietitian so its all I know! I cant answer fitness advice reliably. Its not my field.

You might want to join Weight Watchers. They have lots of GOOD HEALTHY tips for loosing weight and keeping it off. They have other plans that do not entail purchasing their food. My brother was on it and lost tons of weight. It helped that his wife was on the program, too, so they supported each other.

    Here is a good site:

Here is a site with suggestions from the Mayo Clinic:

Here is another one from edoctors:

All these site can be of great help. Keep looking, reading, and asking. The more you know, the healthier you can stay.

    Good luck hun.
