I like two dog food companies, Wellness( which my dog eats, but she is on a high protein. They also make one for older dogs and overweight ones) and Merrick is another company that makes good food.

I am sure you are eager to get your dog moving and back into shape, but remember to take it slowly. A lot of dogs ( especially puppies) can over exert themselves. I'd start with 15 min walks about 3 times a day.
For treats you can give her carrots, apple, broccoli.

As for toys, it depends what she likes and if she is the type to shred them or not. A lot of dogs love stuffed animals. If however your dog chews them up quickly there is this toy called a Wubba, which is strong, but at the same time not all plastic.

And congratulations on your new family member.

Congrats on the rescue beagle!!!

I'd go with your vet's recommendation on WL food. Be sure to ease into your exercise routine. Even walking with a bunch of extra weight will put stress on her organs and joints. Slow and steady wins the weight loss race!!! Also, you may want to give her a Glucosamine-Chondroitin supplement.

Congrats again!!!

Congratulations! And thank you for saving a dogs life by adopting from a shelter. I would look at Royal Canin or IVD brand food (its the same company) for a weightloss food. You can also check with your vet, IVD has prescription dog foods that are top quality. Both of my dogs are on IVD have have been for 5+ years and I wouldnt trust to feed them anything else.

For toys...Before you get your new beagle I would see what kind of toys she seems to like most before you go crazy buying them. Middle aged dogs ususally prefer squeaky toys over chew toys. But I would check with the beagle first. If the shelter isnt sure what she prefers maybe have a few differnt type of toys at home for her when she arrives and see what she likes most then buy her favorites!!

Good Luck! Sounds like she will have a wonderful new home and companion!!
